A Letter from Hannah Stone (Distinguished Young Woman of Maryland 2009)
Welcome to your first experience in the Distinguished Young Women program. I am so glad you are considering participating! By doing so, you have opened many doors for yourself in the near future... take it from a girl that is going to a great University on a FULL scholarship. This is more than just a scholarship program. It is your opportunity to interview for a fantasy job. This "job" gives you the opportunity to bring hope, excitement, and new knowledge to youth wherever you go. You get a chance to be that role model every parent wants for their child. The core values and integrity of this program have held steadfast for years and will help you build life skills.
You are an intelligent, talented, unique young woman that wants to make a difference and will meet other like-minded young women in this program. The weekend of the Maryland program, we had 13 girls rehearsing like crazy together. The state and national program was an amazing experience that I will always remember.
I could go on endlessly explaining to you what this program has meant to me, but you will understand what I mean if you truly take advantage of every moment.
